Central Park: Sheep Meadow

Special Price $15.00 Regular Price $50.00
This plate covers the southernmost end of Central Park, and includes an arc of midtown Manhattan.  Grand Army Plaza serves as the official gateway to the Park's southeastern corner.  Visitors who enter from midtown encounter popular destinations like the Pond, the Zoo, Wollman Rink, and the Carousel.  The expansive 15-acre Sheep Meadow is the most famous lawn in the park.  Once home to a flock of purebred sheep, this site has hosted everything from demonstrations to concerts, as well as a regular audience of sunbathers and kite flyers.  Another prominent feature is the 12,000-foot-long Mall, populated by one of the largest remaining stands of rare American Elms.

Notable architectural landmarks in the neighborhood surrounding the park include the Museum of Art + Design at Columbus Circle, Carnegie Hall, the Plaza Hotel, and the Frick Collection.
