The emergence of Cape Town was a result of its strategic location on the trade route between Europe and Asia, where it served as an outpost to resupply ships on their journey. Consequently, the city has been a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. The legacy of all this migration is a rich tapestry of cultures from around the world that is still evident today.
