City Plate - Cape Town

Special Price $35.00 Regular Price $50.00
Part of our eighth series of City Plates, "Points of Departure."  This collection explores departure points for legendary journeys: prospectors seeking their fortunes, explorers setting out for new lands, and importers and exporters shipping vast quantities of goods.

Famous for its harbor, Cape Town is the oldest city in South Africa and one of the most multicultural cities in the world.  The emergence of Cape Town was a result of its strategic location on the trade route between Europe and Asia, where it served as an outpost to resupply ships on their journey.  Consequently, the city has been a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa.  The legacy of all this migration is a rich tapestry of cultures from around the world that is still evident today.
